Knitting

ribbed

For the brand VRIENDEN a blanket has been developed, in a knitted structure that ripples.

The plain stripe, is a double knit, a hollow tube: one color in front, one at the back. The thin horizontal stripes are knit one on top of the other, and take more space than the tube which causes a rippling effect on that spot.

Product

The brown sample is a rib, knitted with elastic. Elastic is not a challenge for me. It is perishable: the stretch goes out after a while, because of UV radiation, sweat or bleach.

Development

On a flat-bed knitting machine the yarn, by means of a yarn feeder, is inserted into the needles and passes a needle bar from left to right and back. A bar is a metal surface with needles. On a V-bed knitting machine you have an upper- and an under bar.

You can also knit the yarn from the upper to the under bar thus creating a kind of circular knit.
