Yarn

fluffy

To approximate the softness of a pile fabric or knit, chenille yarn can be used. There are various ways to produce the threads that stick out of the yarn at different angles. Here the yarn is woven with a leno weave and then cut vertically .

A different technique is knitting on a Rachel knitting machine with an inserted thread. Each knitting pin has its own yarn feeder that fixes the inserted thread, which later gives the fluffy effect. It is called feather yarn.

Chenille yarn is produced in two steps. First a fabric is produced with a leno weave thus securing the weft. A gap is left in the reed creating long weft floats which are cut to create a fringe which gives the fluffy effect.
