Yarn
Smyrna
In the sixties and seventies of the last century, hand knotting your own rugs with 7 cm woollen Smyrna yarns was a popular hobby. You needed a pattern, a kind of crochet needle and yarn. The carpet above is hand knotted in that way.
I translated that same principle to this carpet, quality Beiras for Casalis.
A 2 ply, pink thick, felted woollen yarn is used. Thicker than the usual yarn, the shine is prettier and the biggest difference is, that I did not have the pile cut after knotting. The structure stands out more that way.
Hand-knotted on a horizontal flax warp.
Twining is the winding of two or more yarns together.
